Despite having planning permission for their Southampton Road store, the supermarket giant might not be using it after all.

Tesco has approval to put in another exit for the car park, that would take drivers onto New Petersfinger Road.

As well as giving drivers another option, it was also thought that would help to ease some of the major congestion that often delays shoppers.

Long queues to get out of the big Tesco car park in Salisbury are commonplace

Even though the idea of a new exit from the Southampton Road store proved very popular when it was given permission, it looks like there's been a change of heart from Tesco.

Spire FM has asked them when any building work might take place, and we were given this statement from a Tesco spokesman:

"We have planning permission in place for a second entrance way to our Salisbury Extra site, but this project is not on our current annual works schedule."

One reason for not putting in the entrance right now might be that the area's suffered from a number of roadworks schemes.

Milford Mill Road has been closed on a few occasions in the last year, due to new traffic lights being installed, widening of the road under the railway bridge and some gas works.

There's also been a lot of building work just next door to the Tesco car park, while the new Premier Inn and McDonalds have been constructed.
