Amesbury taxi driver banned for breaching licence conditions

Published by Faye Tryhorn at 11:39am 13th March 2019.

Amine Achboun has had his licence revoked and been fined after failing to provide records of his bookings.

Mr Achboun had been licensed by Test Valley Borough Council to work for a private hire operator in Romsey.

He was asked by the authority to produce details of the bookings he'd taken, but failed to do so.

That's a breach of his licence and a criminal offence under the Local Government Act.

Private hire drivers are required to keep records to prove all journeys are pre-booked and to ensure the safety of passengers.

Mr Achboun has now been prosecuted and admitted the charges against him at a Basingstoke Magistrates Court hearing.

He's had his licence revoked and been fined £80, as well as being ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £615 in costs.

Corporate portfolio holder for Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Maureen Flood, said:

"Our first priority for our residents is to keep them safe, which is why we regularly undertake checks on anyone licensed to carry passengers in the borough. We take all cases such as this very seriously and I hope this acts as a deterrent."
