How should Salisbury District Hospital be futureproofed?

Salisbury District Hospital HEAT Project March 2019

Published by Faye Tryhorn at 2:17pm 14th March 2019.

A huge project's been launched to see how the site could look in years to come, and they need our help.

Public consultations are being held this afternoon (Thursday March 14th) and all day on Saturday (March 16th) for us to start having our say.

There are no exact plans at this stage but the idea of the project is to see how the whole Salisbury District Hospital estate needs refreshing, upgrading and maintaining.

Some of the buildings on site are up to 70 years old and coming towards the end of their functional life - while others are newer and don't need so many repairs.

The project also aims to 'improve patient flow' around the site.

Chairman of the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Nick Marsden, explains more about the scheme:

The project is being brought in now, ahead of an expected influx in patient numbers, because of factors like the Army Rebasing programme, an aging population in South Wiltshire and increased pressures on the health service generally.

The public consultation sessions are being held at:

  • Britford Memorial and Community Hall - 2.00 to 6.30pm - Thursday 14th March
  • Red Lion Hotel, Milford Street, Salisbury - 10.00am to 2.00pm - Saturday 16th March

There's also more information on their website.

It's expected that the final plans won't be drawn up for another year or so, with any building work likely to be carried out over a number of phases.
