It means the cost of the green bin service will have gone up 25% since the first charge was introduced.

When the garden waste service started in 2011 it was orginally free with the aim to encourage us to be greener.

In 2015 Wiltshire Council introduced a controversial £40 charge, since then council bosses have regularly put the cost up.

It's currently £48 but from the 1st July residents will have to fork out £50 for the full year service.

81,00 households are currently using a green bin.

A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said:

“We have a good take up of the service and currently 81,000 households use the service. All garden waste is composted locally with people encouraged to put bark, grass cuttings, cut flowers, weeds, leaves, hedge clippings, twigs and small branches in the bins.

"Details of how to renew subscriptions will be sent to all participating households in April. The charge helps cover the cost of collections and the slight increase reflects that.”
