The go-ahead has been given to change the use of the building in the Old George Mall.

The Salisbury's branch of BHS shut in July 2016 after the chain collapsed, since then there's been very little interest in the premises with it just being used occasionally to run a pop up cinema.

Now it's getting a new lease of life and will be turned into a new hotel and shops.

The ground floor would be split into two shops with the upper floors turned into a hotel, a lobby on the ground floor would offer access via both Old George Mall and New Street.

In their application, RPMI Railpen explain why the development would be good for the city:

"The proposal will help to bring long term vacant floorspace back into an active and productive use and contribute towards the vitality and viability of Salisbury City Centre."

There are some conditions to the planning approval, such as the works must be noise controlled.
