Janet Scammell had the shock of her life when she opened the door to find a snake looking at her.

Janet, who turns 79 this week, discovered the snake around 5.30am on Friday morning (22nd March) after her cat Socks began acting strangely .

"Every single hair was up straight on her body and she kept crying to go out. I could hear this strange hissing outside."

When Janet opened the door of her home in Bulford village she was confronted with a "huge snake which lunged up at me."

Janet immediately slammed the door and said she sunk into the sofa in shock.

Poor Janet had to deal with her 90 year old husband who has dementia before she could turn her attention with what to do with a four foot snake loitering outside her door.

Janet tried contacting the RSPCA but didn't have any luck, fortunately her younger son came over.

When Paul arrived the snake was hiding under a pallet by the back door.

Paul and a neighbour managed to get the snake into a bin she keeps for food scraps to feed a friend's pigs before the pair managed to transfer it to another container with a more secure container.

The snake was taken to Porton Garden Centre.

Staff there have confirmed to Spire FM it was a tropical snake which is "likely to be an escaped pet."
