More plans revealed for Salisbury's Maltings redevelopment

We can now have a say on the Draft Masterplan for the multi-million pound scheme (picture courtesy of Simon Ward).
A public consultation on the ideas that developers have come up with so far for the Maltings and the Central Car Park is now underway (from Monday 15th April).
There's a whole raft of things that could change around the area, across a number of phases.
Here's some of the other things that could be redeveloped, according to the Masterplan:
- A new arcade of shops through the Market Walk
- 'Enhancements' to the Cheese Market area
- Refurbishments and modernising the Maltings shops
- Improvements to Priory Square
- A 'pocket park' outside the front of Salisbury City Hall and the Playhouse
- Linking the Playhouse and City Hall buildings together with one foyer for both
- New coach park area, with improved public toilets
- New play park and outdoor gym facilities
- A green riverside walk along the River Avon

RELOCATION FOR OTHER AMENITIES?
But it looks like there's a possibility of moving some other long-term fixtures in the city centre too.
The Masterplan suggests that Wiltshire Council will 'work closely and proactively with existing occupiers, including the Job Centre and Sainsbury's to explore potential opportunities for relocation'.
That would make way for residential units and part of the proposed new 'cultural quarter'.

HAVE YOUR SAY:
The public consultation will now run until Friday May 24th and we're being asked to tell Wiltshire Council what we think.
It's available to see on the authority's website - that's also where we can submit our comments.
We can also see them at local Wiltshire Council buildings:
- Salisbury Library
- Wilton Library
- Downton Library
- Amesbury Library
- Durrington Library
- Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Salisbury
- Wiltshire Council offices in Salisbury (Bourne Hill)
- Wiltshire Council offices in Trowbridge (County Hall)
A public exhibition's also planned for next Tuesday (April 23rd) at Salisbury Guildhall, between 9.30am and 6.45pm.
We can also comment by emailing majorprojects@wiltshire.gov.uk or by post to Major Projects, Wiltshire Council, The Council House, Bourne Hill, Salisbury, SP1 3UZ.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Once all the comments have come in, they'll be taken into consideration before the finalised plan goes to Wiltshire Council's Strategic Planning Committee.
Here's the expected timeline of when any work might take place:

Councillor Pauline Church, cabinet member for economic development and south Wiltshire recovery, said:
"The Maltings and Central Car Park is an important space in the centre of Salisbury, and it's vital that we involve the community in any future plans for development for the area.
"I would encourage anyone with an interest in Salisbury's future as a shopping, leisure and tourism destination to attend the public exhibition at Salisbury's Guildhall to find out more, and respond to the consultation on the draft masterplan."
