He's believed to have threatened people in the city's Central Car Park on Tuesday evening (April 16th).

Police officers on foot patrol spoke with two 'distressed' men in the car park that night, who told them a man with a knife had tried to attack them.

The officers - one of which is a Special Constable - spotted a man matching the description of the suspect.

He ran away when they approached him.

The suspect was detained after being chased on foot.

While he didn't have a knife on him at the time of his arrest, CCTV enquiries found that a man had been brandishing a machete in the area.

A 22 year old man from Salisbury was arrested and has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Extensive searches have been carried out for the machete.

EUROPEAN ARREST WARRANT OUT:

While the man has been in custody, police have also discovered he is also wanted on a European arrest warrant in relation to an incident in Romania.

Salisbury Inspector Pete Sparrow said:

"This was some really positive work by the officers involved - they worked really quickly and efficiently to gather enough information to ensure this man could be charged within the 24-hour time frame.

"This case also highlights how important the Special Constabulary is - our special constables are volunteers who have the same powers and wear the same uniform as regular officers. They play a key role in policing and their contribution to the force should never be underestimated."
