Sword recovered by police in Salisbury

Published by Faye Tryhorn at 7:41am 19th April 2019.

It's believed it's the weapon used to threaten two men in Central Car Park earlier this week.

Police in the city have been carrying out searches to find a 'large knife' thought to have been used during an incident on Tuesday evening (April 16th).

Two men in Salisbury's Central Car Park told officers a man tried to attack them.

When police caught up with a suspect, he didn't have a knife on him at the time but CCTV enquiries showed a man with a knife in the area.

A 22 year old has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

As a result of further CCTV enquiries, a second person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 34 year old local man is being questioned.

Officers have also recovered a sword, which they believe was the weapon involved.

Salisbury Inspector Pete Sparrow said:

"The carrying of weapons whether for offensive or defensive reasons will never be tolerated. Thanks to the excellent CCTV, officers were able to quickly identify the second person involved and recover this frightening sword before any further harm was caused."

Police are still appealing any witnesses to come forward and we're also asked to report any incidents in which weapons are being carried.

If you have any concerns, you're asked to call officers on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
