Refurbishment on Sergei Skripal's house progressing well

Refurbishment on Sergei Skripal's house progressing well

Published by Faye Tryhorn at 12:27pm 24th April 2019.

The scaffolding around the property on Christie Miller Road in Salisbury is now being taken down.

Investigations and decontamination work have been taking place at the former Russian spy's home in the city since the novichok attack in March 2018.

Mr Skripal, his daugther Yulia, and Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey came into contact with the nerve agent from the door handle of the house.

Since the New Year, the focus of that work has been on getting the house and garage roofs replaced.

That needed to be done as the timber frames within them are too difficult to 'clean' and easier to rebuild.

A 'sealed frame' had been created to keep the property secure, but now the roof work's been completed, that can be taken down.

Wiltshire Council, who are leading the clean-up process, alongside military personnel, have written to Christie Miller Road residents to keep them updated on the process.

They've said that as the external works are finished, the scaffolding around it can be removed (from Tuesday April 23rd).

More work's needed to refurbish the interior of the property, following the decontamination.

There's no word on how long that might take.

Wiltshire Council has already said that the 'priority that the sites affected by the 2018 incidents are thoroughly cleaned and returned to normal use'.

The house is still owned by Sergei Skripal and they're in regular contact with him about the process.

If he chooses to sell the property, the authority will help with that.
