Salisbury Market day changing over Armed Forces Weekend

Salisbury City Council initially decided to cancel the Charter Market on the Saturday.

On Saturday 29th June, the city will host this year's National Armed Forces Day event, with over 250,000 people expected to take part in celebrations.

Events will include a military parade that'll pass close to the Market Square.

The authority said it was clear that the combination of road closures, logistics of the event and the scale of security surrounding the parade would mean that the Charter Market could not be held.

Salisbury City Council will now run the market on Friday 28th June, on the first day of Salisbury Armed Forces Day.

They said:

"This market has been offered at the request of traders and it is anticipated that the usual full range of stalls and food vendors will be available.

"Unfortunately the Charter Market which usually takes place on a Saturday will have to be closed on 29 June due to the Armed Forces Day National Event celebrations taking place in Salisbury City Centre and on Hudson's Field.

"Additional footfall is expected in the city over this long weekend and it is hoped that the market will enjoy success as a result of that."
