Downton man sends D-Day memento to French museum

What began as a fundraiser has lead to a very special poster being donated to a museum in Normandy.

Village stalwart Malcolm Dean organised the sale of commemorative bottles of beer from Downton Brewery to raise monies for the Royal British Legion and the D Day veterans.

As a result 40 veterans received a celebration meal in Arromanches on the 6th June 2019, the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings and Battle of Normandy.

Whilst Malcolm was there he was able to get one of the posters showing the 75 reasons to thank our D-Day veterans signed by all those that are attended, most of whom are photographed on the poster.

40's  themed wartime singing group the D-Day Darlings also added their signatures.

The poster has now been framed and donated to the D Day Museum in Arromanches for their archives.

75 reasons poster
The poster was signed by many of the veterans pictured in it.

The posters were produced by D Day revisited for the 75th anniversary D Day garden at Chelsea Flower Show, which Malcolm was lucky enough to attend as a VIP Guest.

Malcolm also was able to be part of the celebrations which took part in France over the Anniversary, sitting only feet away from HRH Prince of Wales and Theresa May in the Cathedral.

He also told Spire FM he was "humbled"  by his experience at the cemetery with over 400 Veterans of World war 2.
