The facilities in the Memorial Gardens have been affected a few times already this year.

The cases of vandalism have seen toilet seats broken, paper thrown around, and in one case rolls set alight within the cubicles.

Downton Parish Council has told Spire FM News they're fed up of the 'inconvenience' that's causing each time.

The Parish Council's contractors are being left to clear up the vandalism, to ensure the toilets can remain open to the public

It's also costing them money to keep up with repairs and replacements.

The latest incident happened last weekend:

The public toilets are open between 7.00am and 7.00pm Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 7.00pm on Saturdays and 9.00am to 7.00pm on Sundays.

As well as the vandalism, there have also been incidents reported to have taken place in the doorway of the toilets when the block is closed overnight.

There'll soon be better protection for the toilet block when it's closed up each night

That's prompted the Parish Council to look into putting up a fence close to the doors, to prevent people accessing it.

The gate's due to be installed in the next few weeks.

Wiltshire Police has confirmed they are investigating incidents of what they describe as 'criminal damage'.

PC Matt Holland, the Community Co-ordinator for the area, said:

"We have been carrying out targeted patrols in Downton recently following reports of anti-social behaviour, and have included the area around the public toilets following reports of vandalism.

"I would urge anyone with information to call me on 101, quoting crime reference 54190077974. You can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
