A decade of Durrington's Sunday Funday

A decade of Durrington's Sunday Funday

Published by Mike Draper at 2:01pm 24th August 2019.

The village is excited at the arrival of its popular community event which is now celebrating ten years.

Originally set up as a charity event to raise funds for the village hall preschool, it has developed into a hugely popular community event.

  • WHEN: Sunday 25 Aug 2019
  • WHERE: Durrington Recreation Ground, Recreation Road, Durrington, SP4 8HH
  • EVENT TIMES: 12 midday - 4.00pm

Last year, after having to cancel the original event due to the rubbish weather, it still attracted more than 2000 visitors.

This year's event will be raising money for:

  • The Radnor Ward at Salisbury Hospital
  • Wiltshire Air Ambulance
  • A number of other local groups

Co-founders, Dion and Emma Spencer said:

"It's mainly aimed at the kids, so there's stuff going on all afternoon, keeping them entertained and bringing the community together whilst making a few pennies for local charities. We are very proud to say we have raised more than £15,000 over the past nine years which we've be able to donate  to small local charities, groups and individuals in need."

SATURDAY EVENING - RETRO IN THE REC

As well as the Sunday Funday, the organisers have added Retro in the Rec, a music event on the village recreational ground on Saturday evening before the main event on Sunday.

  • Retro in the Rec takes place Saturday evening, 24th August 2019
  • It's on from 5.30pm - 10.30pm

Dion and Emma also said:

"We already deliver a great event for the youngsters, but felt the grownups needed a treat too. In its four year history the evening Retro event has grown and grown, it's fabulous to see everyone singing and dancing along to live music and a disco - a perfect end to the summer break. The joint event is now quite a beast to organise and we couldn't do it without the support of local businesses and top team of volunteers who help us set up and of course clear up after the events."
