Published by Faye Tryhorn at 1:03pm 6th September 2019.

The bakery chain is starting to recruit staff for its new warehouse on Solstice Park.

The centre's expected to open in the coming weeks, to provide High Street stores in the South and South West with food stocks.

Leaflets have been printed calling for people interested in becoming drivers and operatives for the company's Amesbury site.

The planning application for the centre was approved by Wiltshire Council last December.

In that, Greggs gave some details about why it was necessary:

"The distribution centre is required to to service an expanding number of Greggs High Street stores in the South and South West of the country. The facility will receive a range of ambient, chilled and frozen goods from Greggs Plc manufacturing facilities which will be temporarily stored and picked prior to despatch to the shops.

"The facility is required to maintain the ongoing success of Greggs in expanding their business and shop numbers and represents their commitment to the long term future of the business."

They also put an update in their interim results report for the London Stock Exchange in July too:

"We also substantial progress in the construction of our new distribution centre based at Amesbury in Wiltshire, which is due to be commissioned at the end of the year."
