City bosses have also confirmed the date of the light switch on.

Salisbury's festive season will kick off Thursday 21st November with the traditional Christmas Lights Switch On.

The evening will include fireworks, entertainment and live music plus Father Christmas of course.

There will be no celebrity in the line up.

In previous years we have had Antony Cotton, Joey Essex, Craig Revel Horwood, Joey Essex and Phil Mitchell.

So why the change this year?

A spokesperson for Salisbury City Council has told Spire FM this year "we are focusing on it being a community event."

The city's Guildhall Square will once again be home to the ice rink.

You'll be able to get your skates on from Saturday 30th November 20 19 until Sunday 5th January 2020.

The ice rink, once again, will be protected from the winter weather by a marquee, which Salisbury BID say will "make it the perfect Christmas activity come rain or shine."

Skating fans will be able to take to the ice rink again this festive season.

Tickets go on sale soon, and an early-bird discount will be available.

Organisers have told Spire FM there will be "a small increase in price" but stressed "it's still extremely cheap compared to other surrounding ice rinks."

The German-style wooden chalets also make a return.

Around 40 will be placed in the Market Place area, selling products from across the country.

Like last year they'll be a food and drink quarter and a programme of live music.

Chalets at Salisbury Christmas Market
They'll be around 40 chalets in Salisbury this festive season.

It will be known as 'Salisbury Christmas Fayre' rather than 'Salisbury's Christmas Market' which it has been traditionally billed as since it began in 2012.

The City Council have explained the changes to Spire FM:

"We are too small to compete with the big Market offerings of Winchester and Bath and so we are turning our Christmas in Salisbury offering into a more experiential event - there will be a combination of traditional stalls and also a great foodie area and a real live advent calendar, Santa's grotto in the Guildhall, a selfie area and all sorts - hence a Fayre and less of a traditional market."

The fayre will open on Saturday 30th November until Tuesday 24th December.

New for this year will be a "magical Santa's Grotto"

Father Christmas will be setting up base in the former Crown Court inside The Guildhall.

Salisbury's very own Santa will read a story to young visitors and they'll be a chance to get a photo with the famous fellow as well as a gift for each child.

Father Christmas
You'll be able to visit Father Christmas in The Guildhall.

The popular walking trail involving ten giant nutcrackers returns to the city.

According to German traditions, Nutcrackers were given as keepsakes to bring good luck to your family and to protect your home.

Last year's trail was marred after one of the nutcrackers was stolen and two were vandalised.

This year will see the introduction of a new nutcracker to replace Carol after she went missing.

The trail will run from Saturday 30th November 2019 until Sunday 5th January 2020.

Find all ten Nutcrackers and be in with a chance of winning a £100 Salisbury Gift Card.

The popular animated film The Snowman will be shown at Salisbury Cathedral complete with a Live Orchestra

There are three showings on Friday 6th December with tickets available from the Cathedral's website.

Robin Hood is this year's panto at the Salisbury Playhouse.

Performed in the Main House at Salisbury Playhouse from 30th November 2019 until 12th January 2020, pantomime is the perfect festive treat for all the family.

Ticket sales for last year's production of Beauty & the Beast were record-breaking, so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.

Salisbury's independent shops will be opening their doors until 8pm on Thursday 5th December.

Shops will be offering exclusive offers and discounts - you may even find some shops offering a glass of mulled wine and mince pie whilst you browse.

This late-night shopping evening will provide a chance to do some Christmas shopping from Salisbury's independent shops after work.

Also making a return is the popular Christmas Tree Festival at St Thomas's Church.

The Christmas tree entries can be admired from Tuesday 3rd - Sunday 8th December 2019.

Last year there were over 100 entries.
