The Cross Keys cafe, which has been a staple for decades, has suddenly shut its doors.

The restaurant, in the shopping centre of the same name, is believed to have been closed since the middle of last week.

The business also run the Chequers Cafe within the centre, and that's also shut and the area cleared.

The space where the cafe was based has been emptied over the weekend

The reason for the abrupt closure hasn't been fully confirmed, but Spire FM News has been given a statement from one of the people involved:

"The owners of Cross Keys Restaurant are still unclear of the situation, however they are doing everything they can to re-open as soon as possible."

Signage has been put on the door of the cafe explaining that legal action is being taken:

The signs suggest a High Court order's been taken out by the 'mortgagee', banning anyone from entering the building

It's also understood that security staff at Cross Keys shopping centre have been asked to change the locks at the premises.
