Jonathan Newland is cycling 874 miles to raise money for the Stars Appeal Pembroke Unit fund.

Jon, 33, is cycling solo from John O'Groats to Lands End in support of his sister who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in June of last year.

Jonathan set up a JustGiving page and aimed to raise £1,000 for Salisbury District Hospital's charity.

But he has smashed his target and so far has raised over £3,300

INSPIRATION BEHIND CYCLE

Jon's sister, Holly, was told that at the end of 6 months of chemotherapy they would take the tumour out, but unfortunately it grew so big they were unable to operate.

She has now started chemo at Salisbury District Hospital to prolong her life.

His wife, Chloe, said:

"I am extremely proud of what he has achieved so far and I know that with only 2 days to go when he reaches the end he will be exhausted but also proud of his own achievement.

His sister is now to poorly to meet him at the end but I will be there with his two children, Lily, 7 and Dylan, 4 to congratulate him."

Jon is due to finish the cycle on Saturday (14th September) after beginning on Saturday 31st August.
