New lease of life for empty unit on Salisbury's Southampton Road

We could soon see the former Maplin's building coming back into some use.

The unit, on the corner of Bourne Way next to Halfords, has been empty for over a year, since the electrical chain collapsed.

Now, a planning application's been approved by Wiltshire Council to change the use of the building.

The store closed over a year ago and has been empty ever since

The application is to turn the site into a car servicing and repair centre - doing MOT testing, selling tyres, batteries, exhausts, clutches etc, as well as car valeting.

The documents suggest it's planned to be taken over by national company F1 Autocentres.

They have more than 110 branches across the country, with the nearest ones currently at Andover, Southampton's West Quay Road and Hedge End.

The garage would employ seven or eight full time staff when it opens.

It's also expected to be open seven days a week.
