The incident took place on the westbound carriageway, close to Solstice Park.

Police say emergency services were called out just after 12.05pm today (Monday 23rd September).

They're told both sides of the road have to be be closed while the Air Ambulance can land.

The eastbound side has now re-opened (as of 1.35pm) but westbound is likely to be shut for a while this afternoon:.

They are asking people to find alternative routes and avoid the area.

Wiltshire Police has said:

“Shortly after midday today we were called to a collision between a lorry and a cyclist on the westbound carriageway of the A303, east of Solstice Park.

“Emergency services remain at the scene and the westbound carriageway is expected to remain closed for some time.

“We are urging motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes.”

Highways England are also keeping people up to date:

They've set up a diversion route for the time being as follows:

  • Use the solid black diamond diversion symbol
  • When travelling westbound, leave the A303 at Cholderton
  • Take the A338 to the junction with the A345 (The Beehive)
  • Join the A345 northbound through Amesbury
  • Re-join the A303 westbound at Countess roundabout

We are aware there will be other routes that drivers can take to make that diversion shorter, but Highways England advice is to use A roads where possible.
