He was dealing with a broken down car near Winterbourne Stoke when another car collided with the vehicle.

The incident took place at approximately 3.40pm on the east-bound carriageway of the A303 at Yarnbury Castle yesterday (4th October).

Wiltshire Police say a black Mercedes E220 collided with the rear of a black Peugeot 307 which was stationary, having broken down in lane one of the two lane carriageway.

The vehicle was in the process of being recovered by the RAC.

As a result of that collision, an RAC mechanic suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

He was taken to Salisbury District Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the Mercedes and the driver of the broken down Peugeot were not injured.

The east bound carriageway of the road was blocked as a result of the collision and remained closed for over 6 hours whilst the scene was investigated and the vehicles were recovered.

The road was finally re-opened at 10pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 and quote reference number 54190099048.
