Officers have confirmed that 'nothing suspicious' has been found following a threat being made to the area.

The information was called in to police at around 1.00pm this afternoon (Saturday 12th October).

A threat was made to the Old George Mall car park.

That prompted police to close it off to the public and evacuate the area.

Further details have only been released now that the incident has been resolved.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police say they've made thorough checks:

"Extensive searches and enquiries were carried out (at the car park). Enquiries will continue to establish the full circumstances, however, nothing suspicious has been located and the car park is now open again."

They've thanked people in the shopping centre for their patience during the incident.

Police forensics officers were also seen conducting a search at a phonebox in the Cathedral Close during the afternoon.

PARKING WAIVED FOR ABANDONED CARS

The Old George Mall has confirmed that any vehicles left in the car park overnight as a result of being trapped in the area will have their fees waived when they're taken out.

They'll also be opening the car park earlier tomorrow morning (Sunday 13th October) for drivers to be able to collect cars.

It'll be open from 8.00am to allow for that.
