You may have noticed the electricity cutting out very quickly across Salisbury today, that's because of tests that are being carried out.

Scottish and Southern Electricity say their engineers are doing something called 'switching the network'.

They have to switch off the supply to different points of the network, to try to locate a fault.

The company says they do it like this because it means customers have their power back fairly quickly, and it will help them find out where the bigger fault is.

A statement from Scottish and Southern says:

"During this process you may notice your power going on and off, please don't be alarmed, this is just because we are switching the electricity on and off to try and locate the fault."

The company has also apologised for any inconvenience the tests may cause, saying they hope to have rectified the problem by 14:30.

It has have some impact - with shoppers having to wait in queues while tills reboot.

If you do have a longer power outage, you can contact them by calling 0800 072 7282 or through their website.
