It's an important weekend. The long awaited Parkour scheme in Salisbury is, at long last, opening to the public.

Costing £50k, Salisbury City Council and Wiltshire Council worked together to provide it, with the aim of encouraging more people to get active outdoors.

But problems with parts meant that the original opening date, before the summer holidays, was missed.

WHAT IS PARKOUR?

The easiest way to define Parkour is as a sport, or activity, in which you move rapidly through an area, usually an urban environment, whilst running, jumping, and climbing to negotiating your way through obstacles.

WHY PARKOUR SALISBURY?

The decision to create a new parkour park came after interest from a group of young people in Salisbury, who were keen on the activity but had nowhere suitable to do it.

This new park is open to ALL ages and abilities.

Local parkour coach, Kieran Coombes is hoping lots of people will give it a go.

"This facility is an amazing addition to the city and the Salisbury Parkour community has been extremely excited for this park. It means that young people can take part in a safe and secure environment. We encourage people of all ages to come along and give it a go! Parkour is for everyone and I know the guys at the Kiwi Parkour club in Salisbury can't wait to start using it!"

Jack Found is a keen free-runner who has documented his favourite spots around the city!

Cllr Allison Bucknell, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Leisure hopes it will be much used.

"Parkour has really caught on in the UK as a sport which tests people's creativity and agility. I'm pleased as a council we were able to support this new facility which I'm sure will inspire many to keep fit and have fun at the same time."
