Stephenson Road on Churchfields will be CLOSED at weekends for the next month.

The route will also be shut overnight on weeknights while Wiltshire Council's on site.

That'll all mean access to Salisbury's Household Recycling Centre (HRC) will be affected.

The roadworks will start tonight (Friday 18th October) and last through to Sunday 17th November

Wiltshire Council tell us the dump will remain open for all but one of the weekends affected by the roadworks.

An alternative access route's being recommended for the following days:

  • Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October
  • Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October
  • Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd November
  • Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November

A diversion route is being set up for drivers needing access to the HRC during the roadworks - using Brunel Road and Telford Road

The Household Recycling Centre will be CLOSED on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November.

We're asked to use the Amesbury or Warminster centres instead on those days.

But the Salisbury centre will open for extra days on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th November to make up for it.

There's one weekend during the roadworks when the tip will be closed, but alternative opening days that week to compensate

Councillor Bridget Wayman, Cabinet Member for Waste said:

"We understand these essential roadworks will inconvenience people and we apologise for any disruption it may cause. Unfortunately, we cannot make the necessary repairs to Stephenson Road without this temporary road closure and the closure of the Salisbury Household Recycling Centre.

"We have worked with FCC Environment, the contractor who operate the council-owned HRCs on our behalf, and will be opening the Salisbury Household Recycling Centre for two extra days during the preceding week to help compensate for the weekend closure."

Access for businesses along Stephenson Road will be maintained as much as possible.

The area of Churchfields that will be affected by roadworks for the next month

It's being described as 'essential' by Wiltshire Council, and many drivers who go into Churchfields would agree.

They'll include 'carriageway reconstruction, resurfacing, kerbing and footway works'.

Temporary traffic lights will also be put up in the area while the work's being carried out.

Most of the roadworks will be carried out overnight during the working week, with Stephenson Road closed between 7.00pm and 6.00am each weeknight until 15th November.

Could this be an end to the potholes that have blighted Churchfields for years?

Wiltshire Council's warned us to expect disruption and delays should be expected.

There's more information about the affects to Salisbury HRC on the authority's website.
