Stonehenge photo fetches big money at auction

It was up for sale in New York on Thursday (17th October 2019).

A picture taken by an American photographer was sent stateside to be sold as part of an auction. 

It ended up going for $10,000 (£6,457) at the Swann Auction Galleries, Fall 2019: Classic & Contemporary Photographs. 

Although it was estimated to reach between $12,000 and $18,000.

It's not known who purchased the photograph.

Richard Misrach took a shot of Stone 16 at Stonehenge back in 1976, with the monument in the background. 


Richard Misrach was born in 1949 in Los Angeles and first began taking pictures in 1967.

According to the Fraenkel Gallery, Misrach is one of the most influential photographers of his generation. 

In the 1970s, he helped pioneer the renaissance of colour photography and large-scale presentation that are in widespread practice today.
