The group of people were caught by police after a vehicle pursuit.

At around 10:45pm yesterday (Saturday 19th October) Police were called to private land in Stoford after reports of damage being caused to a fence and suspicious activity taking place.

On arrival, they found a 4x4 matching the description given earlier.

The vehicle made off from officers at speed and a pursuit took place from Stapleford to North Street in Wilton where the 4x4 collided with a bridge and came to a stop.

Five men, aged 24, 26, 29 38 and 41, were then located and arrested on suspicion of poaching and criminal damage after a number of items were found inside the car.

They were all taken to custody for further questioning.

Duty Supt Phil Staynings said:

"This was an excellent example of officers, police staff and the public working together to tackle rural crime within our communities.

Thanks to the observant member of the public and the detailed description passed to our call handlers, officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and make five arrests swiftly."
