A busy route through the centre of the village has been closed for roadworks this week.

The work on Winterslow Road began on Monday (October 21st) and is expected to last through until November 1st.

The red and orange roadworks signs are where the closure's in place for the next couple of weeks

It's affecting the stretch between the High Street and the junction for Gomeldon Road and Idmiston Road.

There are three sets of works going on as part of the closure - all for utilities to be installed for the area.

The main part is for some sewerage connections to be made by Wessex Water.

SSEN are also digging a trench to put in infrastructure for new electricity poles.

A new gas main is also being laid by SGN.

All of this is in preparation for new housing that's being built nearby at the moment.

While the road is shut, Porton Parish Council is also taking the opportunity to cut back some hedges and make sure the road signs are visible.

Wiltshire Council also tell us that if the work is completed sooner, the road will be re-opened earlier than planned.
