Members of the public were voting for the 'Nation's Favourite Garden' at the National Garden Scheme's awards.

Horatio's Garden at Salisbury District Hospital was voted number one in the South West category of the competition.

At a ceremony in London on Monday (4th November), Head Gardener Stephen Hackett and Horatio's Garden founder and Chair of Trustees Dr Olivia Chapple collected the award.

Throughout the summer, thousands of people were voting for their favourite gardens up and down the country with one main winner and 6 regional accolades being given out.

Speaking after the event, Dr Olivia Chapple said:

"We are absolutely delighted to receive this award and are so grateful to everyone who voted for us. It means a great deal to a great many and is a testament to the efforts of Stephen and the dedicated volunteer team who tend to the garden."

Horatio's Garden is a national charity which looks after beautiful gardens in NHS spinal injury centres in different areas across the UK, with the first one being opened in Salisbury.

Stephen Hackett added:

"It is such a privilege to work in a garden that is so tangibly loved by those who use it and it is wonderful to see that this appreciation and enthusiasm for the charity's gardens is shared by people across the UK."

The charity has 5 gardens so far, with a 6th being designed in Cardiff at the moment.
