Alabaré have used a space in Salisbury to launch their Christmas campaign.

This winter, the Salisbury-based charity want to reduce the number of people affected by the devastation of homelessness this winter.

The billboard in Ashfield Road is aiming to raise awareness of the 726 deaths of homeless people in 2018, across the country.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show there has been an increase of 22% from 2017, the biggest ever since data has been collected.

Andrew Lord, Alabaré's Chief Executive said;

"These figures are simply shocking and prove how much more needs to be done in order to prevent homelessness and the tragic consequences. Working alongside Wiltshire Council and their Rough Sleepers Initiative, it is encouraging to see that there is commitment to reducing the number of people affected.

However simply put, one person living in crisis on our streets is one too many so there remains plenty of work to be done. "

The statistics also show that 22 people are still sleeping rough around Wiltshire.

Alabaré provide a total of 64 bed spaces in Salisbury to those who are either homeless or at risk of becoming.

This year the charity's got a few ideas to help boost their funding, ahead of what is usually a busy time of year for them.

They've got ideas like their Christmas Hat Day on Wednesday 4th December.

We're encouraged to sport some festive headgear in return for a donation.

Alabaré's also put together their 'Knitting for a Change' scheme, where we can buy special kits to make winter woolleys for people living on the streets this Christmas,

We're asked to consider supporting Alabaré through our gift shopping too.

The charity's taking part in The Big Give between 3rd and 10th December.

Any donations made through that will be doubled during the Challenge Week.
