WARNING: Abnormal load on A303

Published by Faye Tryhorn at 5:30am 21st November 2019.

There'll be a slow moving convoy travelling west from Amesbury this morning.

The load's expected to leave Amesbury at around 10.00am today (Thursday 21st November) and join the A303.

It'll travel past Stonehenge, Wylye, Chicklade and Mere, ending up at Wincanton in Somerset.

The abnormal load will travel westbound along the A303 this morning

HOW WILL IT IMPACT TRAFFIC?

We're warned that the load will be 'slow moving and have the potential to cause congestion'.

Wiltshire Police will be escorting the convoy, and tell us some oncoming eastbound traffic may have to pull in and wait for it to pass.

Westbound traffic behind the move will only be allowed to overtake at certain points, when police say it's safe to do so:

"Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across this load. Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey."

The load will move along the A303 past Mere too

WHAT'S BEING MOVED?

The convoy is to move a helicopter, on a low loader.

It'll be 4.97 metre wide and 5.5 metre tall.

We're also told the police involvement in the move is being paid for by the haulier, at no cost to the public.
