Her Royal Highness was meant to officially open a new primary in the town.

Pupils and staff at King's Gate Primary have been looking forward to the Royal's visit this morning (5th December).

HRH was due to tour the new facilities and unveil a plaque there but foggy weather means her helicopter was unable to land.

It's understood the visit will be rescheduled.

The Vice Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire is taking over for the opening today.

A spokesperson at Buckingham Palace told Spire FM:

"Due to inclement weather, The Princess Royal could no longer travel by helicopter to an engagement in Amesbury today, Thursday 5th December.

Other travel options were not possible given the distances involved in meeting Her Royal Highness’ programme requirements."

Pupils had been preparing a song to perform to the Princess Royal,

They were going to perform Pink's 'Walk Me Home' and gave Spire FM a preview.

King's Gate Primary, which is part of the King Alfred Trust was built to meet demand for primary places in the area.

There are currently just 54 pupils but it can accommodate a total of 315 with room for expansion to 420 in the future.
