The 40 year old was detained as part of Wiltshire Police's festive crackdown, Operation Hamper.

Officers out and about on covert patrols on Tuesday (10th December) spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area.

They then observed one of the female occupants enter the Boots store in Silver Street and select over £400 worth of fragrances and gift sets.

The woman left the store without making any attempt to pay for the goods.

Inspector Pete Sparrow said:

"Operation Hamper has seen an improved intelligence picture allowing our resources to focus on persistent criminals who come to Salisbury to steal.

We will continue to resource both overt and covert officers alongside our partners in ShopWatch to deny space for thieves, deter those who wish to travel to Salisbury to commit crime and detect offences when criminals do not listen to the warnings.

"I look forward to monitoring this case through the courts."
