Wiltshire Council's introducing new biodegradable bags for the tickets for the New Year.

From today (Thursday 2nd January 2020), every parking penalty charge issued will be stuck to windscreens in the new bags.

We're told they're recyclable and compostible, complying with British Standards rules.

The new bags will look yellow still, but be a lot greener really!

HOW QUICKLY WILL THE BAGS BREAK DOWN?

Wiltshire Council tell us the materials used in the parking charge notice bags will physically degrade by 90% within 12 weeks.

Biologically, they'll be 90% degraded within six months.

The authority says they're bringing in the new bags in an effort to cut the amount of plastic going to landfill in Wiltshire.

Councillor Bridget Wayman, Cabinet Member for Highways, said:

"We know that the sight of a parking ticket is never a happy one for our residents, but at least if they do get a ticket they can take some comfort in the fact that the bags used are both biodegradable and recyclable, minimising the environmental impact of each penalty charge notice we issue.

"Wiltshire Council is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030, and by taking steps such as this to reduce waste, we can make a difference."
