The volunteers, who are part of the scheme, will be patrolling the city centre later, as people are out to see in 2020.

This is the 10th festive season that Salisbury's Street Pastors will have been on the streets helping those who might have partied a little too hard.

They can offer some support by being a listening ear, and can even help people with aching feet by providing a pair of flip flops!

The Christmas period is usually more eventful for the Street Pastors

This New Year's Eve, as they have done in the last few years, they'll also be hosting their special triage service.

Street Pastors will be joined by paramedics, doctors and nurses to provide some medical help to people.

That will free up space at Salisbury District Hospital's emergency department, which is often busy at this time of year.

Street Pastors are all volunteers, giving up their time to walk the streets of Salisbury to help others

Brian Percey is the Salisbury Street Pastor Co-Ordinator and explains what they can deal with:

"We had 11 casualties last year. One of those, who had a sprained ankle, had to go to A&E because it could have been broken. But the other 10 were dealt with quite successfully. If somebody needs a simple stitch because they've shut their finger in a door, or they've fallen over and need medical attention, we can deal with all those sorts of things."

The 'pop-up triage centre' will be run from Brown Street Baptist Church from 10.00pm tonight (Tuesday 31st December 2019).

The Street Pastors will also have a radio link-up with all the venues in Salisbury city centre and can go to them if they're needed to help out with any issues throughout the night.
