You might recognise some of the faces within the Christmas story scene hanging up in the building's nave.

The Nativity's being displayed on three huge silk voile panels, measuring 3 metres (10 feet) wide and 10.5 metres (35 feet) long.

Every 'character' in the scene is played by someone closely connected to Salisbury Cathedral:

The images have taken months to put together, with Cathedral photographer Ash Mills painstakingly putting around 140 layers of photoshopping into place.

The Nativity was commissioned to give a 'fresh look' for Christmas, as the previous scene had been used for the last 20 years.

The Cathedral's Creative Director Jacquiline Cresswell explains why they were so keen to get local people involved:

"The Nativity is such an important part of Christmas and we wanted it to belong to our community, so all the members - everybody who's participated, are all members of our community."

Ash Mills and Jacquiline Cresswell also make a cameo appearance in the scene - seen in the background behind the wise men and shepherds.

We'll be able to take a look at the panels from today (Saturday 21st December), through until February 2nd 2020.

That's when the Christmas period ends for the Church.
