This is the most heart-warming story you'll read this Christmas - about Gus, the fox red Labrador.

Gus had been taken out for a walk near Wilton Shopping Village on Monday (23rd December), by his owner Samantha Wright.

The dog got into difficulty in the high and fast flowing River Wylye and was swept away.

Sam called the fire brigade for help and posted on local Facebook groups to find him, fearing the worst.

DRAMATIC RESCUE

But it all turned out OK, with Wilton Fire Station sharing this update:

The firefighters also had some advice to other doggos and their owners:

HUGE THANK YOU FROM GUS'S OWNER

Sam put out her gratitude for finding Gus on Facebook saying:

"When I moved here 2 years ago, and knew I was to buy my house, I haven't been happier living in Wilton. I cannot put into words how unbelievably amazing everyone has been today when I lost my gorgeous boy. At 6 months pregnant too it was pretty stressful and think I did a year's worth of crying!

"Luckily Gus isn't too traumatised by the experience. I am overwhelmed by the shares (over 500), likes, concerns, calls and texts from so many people who were also out looking for him both by foot, car, fire engine and also by Wilton Estate team and Crew Wilton. I know that whatever happens that Wilton really is the best place to live and I truly from the bottom of my heart can't thank you all enough! Amazing community spirit. Happy Christmas and lots of love, Sam & Gus xxx"
