Elderly man who died in Wilton Road crash named

Police were called by the ambulance service on Saturday afternoon after the collision in Salisbury involving a pedestrian and VW Golf.

The victim has now been named by Wiltshire Police as Ronald Jones.

Mr Jones, who was 90 and from the city, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement from the force said:

"Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time who are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer."

Nobody else was injured in the collision.

The road was closed for over 5 hours following the accident at 5pm on December 21st.

INVESTIGATION:

No arrests have been made at this time.

Wiltshire Police also the say the driver involved was an off duty officer.

As a result, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam footage of the incident, should call 101 and quote log number 284 of Saturday December 21..
