SGN say the roadworks around Petersfinger are scheduled to finish on time.

The 'urgent' works to replace aging metal gas pipes with new, more reliable, plastic ones began on Boxing Day (26th December).

Engineers have been on site 7.00am to 7.00pm each day since, with two way temporary traffic lights in place on the A36.

HOW'S IT GOING?

SGN has told Spire FM that the work has progressed well, with the installation itself now completed.

Work's now underway to fill in the holes dug up in the road, with the road surface being relaid today (Friday 3rd January).

An anti-skid coating will be put onto the road tomorrow (Saturday 4th), ready for the road to re-open on Sunday (5th January).

The roadworks have brought some traffic delays over the festive period

The work has caused some traffic delays for drivers, but SGN say they chose to do the work at this time of year as it's one of the quietest times on the A36.

They've been working with Highways England to get advice on the best approach for the work.

An SGN spokesperson said:

"We appreciate these works will have caused delays and inconvenience for road users during the holiday period, please pass on our thanks to the public for their patience and understanding."
