Sophie O'Sullivan swam 844 lengths to raise money for the band which has taught four members of her family to play an instrument.

Most children spend the Christmas holidays relaxing with their family and friends but Sophie, from Lover, had other ideas, setting herself a target to swim the equivalent of half a marathon (13.1 miles).

The Trafalgar School pupil took on the challenge at Ringwood and Totton swimming pools over eight days and was presented with a medal at the end of her final swim on Sunday by Ringwood Pool.

Sophie, who plays the trombone, explains why she wanted to push herself.

"I've been a part of Downton Beginners and Training Band since 2016 and also now sometimes join in with Jubilee Brass. My sister, Mum and Grandma also play in the band which is really fun and pretty cool too! So now it's my turn to give something back"

Sophie has raised more than £300 for the band.

Her family have told Spire FM they're very impressed with her commitment.

"We're very proud of Sophie for coming up with this idea and following it through from initial thought to completion. It wasn't easy and she found the back to back swim days hard but she showed real determination to get it done and raise money for a band who have inspired her."

Donations are still being accepted on Sophie's fundraising page  www.gofundme.com
