Whittard in Salisbury is shutting down a week earlier than expected.

It will close its doors for the final time today, Friday 10 Jan 2020, a week earlier than had originally been announced.

The tea and coffee specialist is ceasing to trade in the city centre after being in business for more than two decades.

  • The Whittard shop on Butcher Row has been there for the past 16 years
  • Before that Whittard had a shop on New Canal for 5 years
  • The nearest Whittard branches are now at Southampton or Portsmouth

In an email to Spire FM News, a spokesperson for the Salisbury store said:

"Our shop closure has been brought forward a week."

"We will now cease trading in Salisbury Friday 10th January."


Whittard had expected to keep the Salisbury store going until next Friday, 17 January, but has decided to close sooner.


Whittard of Chelsea has undergone a period of downsizing in the last decade after being brought out of administration in 2008.

The early closure of Whittard comes just one day ahead of the closure of another long standing shop in the city centre.

Fabricland on Catherine Street will shut for the last time on Saturday, blaming high business costs in Salisbury for its decision.
