Jennifer put together a delicious sounding menu for judging:

  • Chicken and Tarragon Ravioli with lemon and garlic dressed carrot and courgette, topped with parmesan
  • Black Forest Brownie - Chocolate brownie base topped with cheesecake and fruits of the forest

Each school chef had 90 minutes to prepare their dishes.

They also had to keep to a budget of £1.30 for one main course and dessert, complying with the School Food Standards Guide.

The competitors had to use one McDougalls Foodservice product in their meals too, as they're sponsoring the contest.

"There is no secret formula to succeeding in the LACA School Chef of the Year Competition.  It just requires school chefs with passion, dedication and oodles of culinary skill mixed together with delicious, nutritious dishes prepared with creativity and flair. Every year, this competition allows us to demonstrate to the wider world both the professional expertise of today's school chefs and the excellent meals they prepare tirelessly every day in schools across the country."

After taking the South West accolade, Jennifer will next go up against nine other regional champions plus two judges' wildcard competitors in the National Final.

STRONG PEDIGREE IN SOUTH WILTSHIRE

This isn't the first time we've had a local school chef taking the South West title.

In 2019, Dave Leeper from the Trafalgar School at Downton was crowned the regional winner for his dishes.
