Our railway station is the 302nd most used in the country, according to latest figures from the Office for Road and Rail.

The ORR has published stats today (Tuesday 14th January) relating to 2018-19.

They've said a total of 2,188,337 people entered, exited or changed trains at Salisbury during that time.

That's down slightly on the year before, by around 60,000 passengers.

WHY ARE PASSENGER NUMBERS DOWN?

The period these figures apply to relate to the time following the Salisbury poisoning.

There were also a number of strike days on South Western Railway over that time as well.

HOW DO OTHER LOCAL STATIONS COMPARE?

The figures from the Office of Road and Rail have ranked all 2,566 railway stations across the UK in order of usage:

  • Grateley - 265,440 passengers (1,257th busiest in the country)
  • Tisbury - 221,735 people (1,341st)
  • Andover - 1,233,184 total passengers (477th)
  • Southampton Central - 8,282,326 people (76th)
  • Dean - just 29,768 passengers (2,142nd)

BUSIEST AND QUIETEST STATIONS

Unsurprisingly, it was a London station that topped the list - with Waterloo being ranked as the most used.

They had more than 100 million passengers entering, exiting and changing trains there.

The quietest stations in Britain are Denton and Stanlow & Thornton, which both had just 46 passengers during that time.
