A planning application has been submitted to Wiltshire Council.

Solar panels could be installed on one of the roofs in the Salisbury Cathedral Cloisters.

The application has been sent in by the Cathedral after they and Salisbury Community Energy investigated the possibility of getting them.

The work will be done by Dittrich Hudson Vasetti architects.

They plan on putting 92 panels on the south roof of the Cloisters, which they say is the most suitable location as they won't be visible from the ground.

They say that the panels should generate over 30,000 kWh per year of electricity, the equivalent of eight average UK houses.

This will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of the cathedral over a year by approximately 7.5 tonnes, with the panels being there for a minimum of twenty years.

We are now able to make our comments on the plans online and have until the 20th February to do so.
