Chance to get involved with the new digital camera and radio system.

Salisbury City Council is looking for more people to cast a watchful eye over the city by becoming a CCTV volunteer.

The control room in Bourne Hill monitors 64 cameras across the city after it was transferred to the Council as part of an asset transfer in September 2019 and is now funded by them and Salisbury BID.

Most are HD with the majority having the ability to zoom, tilt and also pan.

A team of volunteers watch those cameras at key times of the day and work with ShopWatch, PubWatch, City Wardens, and Salisbury Police to give vital information on incidents and crimes happening instantly.

The City Council say that the CCTV system is run to the highest standards following codes of practice from the information commissioner and the surveillance commissioner.

All operators receive professional accredited Public Space CCTV Operator training followed by further training on the system by qualified staff.

MORE HELPERS NEEDED

An appeal last year for volunteers proved very successful and the team hope more people will come forward again.

Richard Goodman, CCTV Manager, said:

We have recruited and trained two groups of volunteers in the last year, and they are doing a great job.

We now have capacity to train a further 12 volunteers.

If you have good communication skills, are able to work to a high standard under pressure and are committed to Salisbury's security and public safety, then we'd love to hear from you."

Anyone getting involved will be asked to commit 16 hours a month

For people interested, contact Richard Goodman on 07849088205 or Rgoodman@salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk to register your interest.

Salisbury City Council and Salisbury BID jointly fund the CCTV system after taking it over from Wiltshire Council.
