Our NHS Foundation Trust has been given cash from the NHS to put in a fully accessible toilet.

Plans were announced last October to build a facility at the hospital for those who might need extra support.

Today (Friday 24th January), the Government's confirmed that Salisbury will be getting £35,000 for a Changing Places space.

The facility will be for people who might be unable to use a toilet independently

WHAT ARE CHANGING PLACES?

They're fully accessible toilets with extra equipment to help people who aren't able to use the facility independently.

The kit includes adult-sized changing benches and hoists.

Salisbury's NHS Foundation Trust is one of only 10 across the country to get funding for the facilities.

Minister for Care Caroline Dinenage said:

"People with severe disabilities deserve to live with dignity and independence, but lack of access to adequate toilet facilities can be a huge challenge. Hospitals, like all public spaces, have a duty to cater for people with disabilities – who risk discomfort, embarrassment and even injury without access to a Changing Place.

"This funding will make a real difference to tens of thousands of people and their carers who use NHS hospitals and I am delighted that trusts can begin building work as soon as possible, with further funding still available.

"While today will help us to double the number of Changing Places in NHS trusts, we still have far to go – I expect every hospital development to include a Changing Places facility in their future plans."

WHEN WILL THE FACILITY BE READY?

SDH say they're hoping to have the Changing Place ready by the end of this year.

It'll be located on the ground floor (Level 3) of the Hospital.
