Wendy Searle has successfully completed her South Pole challenge.

After 5 years of training and planning, Wendy Searle successfully took on the difficult challenge of skiing solo and unaided from the Antarctic Coast to the South Pole

Facing harsh temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius and combating hurricane like winds, Wendy had to battle the elements across the 700 mile trek.

Wendy was aiming to beat the current record for the challenge of  38 days, 23 hours and 5 minutes

  •  Official time of 42 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes
  •  4th Fastest solo unsupported female
  •  473 Hours skied
  •  Distance travelled: 1130km that's 702 miles!
  •  Average of 27km travelled a day
  •  80 KG of supplies carried
  •  258,000 - Calories consumed

Wendy reached her destination in just 42 days becoming the 4th fastest woman to finish the race, and just the 7th female to ever complete the challenge.

All smiles as Wendy finally reaches the South Pole!

Although she couldn't quite beat the record, the mum of four was thrilled about her time:

"I was really pleased actually in the end with the time that I did, what I know inside of myself is that every single day I did everything that I could".

She was so relieved to have finished the race that she broke down in tears upon arriving at the finish.

Wendy told Spire FM it was extremely tough.

"Honestly it was the hardest thing I've ever done, it was a massive mental challenge."

Wendy spent five years training for the feat, juggling looking after four children and a job with the tough preparation.

You might have spotted her pulling a tyre behind her on her practice hikes.
