Suspected drug dealer arrested in Salisbury

An eagle-eyed CCTV operator raised the alarm after spotting a man passing packages to others.

The suspect, a 25 year old man from Southampton, was filmed by the city's surveillance cameras engaging in a suspected drugs deal.

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

  • At approx 1.15pm on Wednesday (29/01) Police were made aware of a man seen to be passing packages to others in the city centre
  • The CCTV operator provided officers with a description of the man and his direction of travel
  • Officers went to the Crane Street area and spotted a man matching the description on a bike heading towards Elizabeth Gardens

A GOOD RESULT

  • The man was stopped near the Cathedral by a Police officer on foot patrol, but struggled free and ran away
  • He was eventually caught and a search was carried out
  • Approximately £350, a large quantity of wraps of suspected class A drugs, and a locking knife were found

The 25-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He's since been released under investigation.

PC Matt Holland said:

"This was an excellent example of partnership working alongside our CCTV colleagues in the city centre which meant we were able to swiftly identify and arrest an individual believed to have been involved in drug supply."

"This type of behaviour will not be tolerated in our city and we will continue to work closely with partner agencies to ensure Salisbury remains a safe place to be."
