Former Salisbury Plain MP sacked as head of climate change event

Claire Perry O'Neil is no longer the UK COP26 President.

The government has removed the former Salisbury Plain MP from the post of President of the UN climate summit in Glasgow.

The event known as COP 26 is due to be staged in the scottish city in November 2020.

Claire Perry O'Neil was the MP for the Devizes constitiency, covering Salisbury Plain, Tidworth and Ludgershall.

She stepped down a member of parliament ahead of the last general election in December 2019.

Sad to leave the role

In a statement the Cabinet Office said:

"Claire Perry O’Neill will no longer be UK COP26 President.

"The Prime Minister is grateful to Claire for her work preparing for what will be a very successful and ambitious climate change summit in Glasgow in November.

"Preparations will continue at pace for the summit, and a replacement will be confirmed shortly.  Going forward, this will be a ministerial role."
