Police and Wiltshire Council closed the road earlier following a three car collision.

The crash happened just before 7.30am this morning (Wednesday 12th February).

The combination of black ice and tight corners made for difficult driving conditions.

The incident this morning happened on Camp Hill

Luckily, no-one was hurt in the incident, but Wiltshire Police were concerned about the risk to other drivers.

They asked Wiltshire Council to step in and help keep the road shut until conditions improved.

Snakey Hill re-opened at around 9.00am, once the ice had thawed enough for the road to be safe again.

REMINDER TO DRIVERS

Police are asking motorists to make sure they're prepared for wintry weather before reading out onto the roads.

They've shared a number of tips to keep us safe while driving in cold, foggy and icy conditions - they include:

  • Reduce speeds
  • Keep lights on
  • Maintain a safe distance
  • Keep some equipment in the vehicle in case of emergencies
